Productivity vs Presence: Why Indian Employers Are Rethinking Attendance Systems
A quiet transformation is taking place in India's workplaces. For years, attendance systems focused almost entirely on presence, punch-in times, biometric scans, but that model is increasingly failing to hold up as employers ask a bigger question: is physical presence the same as being genuinely productive? The strain became especially visible during COVID-19, when remote work eliminated biometric scans entirely, yet work still got done.
In response, companies across IT, consulting and design are shifting toward output-based thinking, replacing "how long were you online" with "what did you get done today." This shift means employers need better productivity tools to measure genuine output rather than just hours logged, a trend with real implications for how attendance and leave management platforms are designed going forward.
